expect = 期待する

・They have been working very hard so they expect a good result.

彼らは熱心に働いているので良い結果を期待している。

・I didn't expect you to arrive so early!

こんなに早く着くのを期待していなかった！

・Dan's girlfriend doesn't like Tom at all! I wouldn't expect her to go to Tom's birthday party.

ダンさんの彼女はトムさんが全然好きじゃない！彼女はトムさんの誕生日パーティーに来るのを期待していないでしょう。

・Everyone in his family is expecting him to succeed.

家族の皆は彼が成功するのを期待している。

・At those prices, I expected the food at that restaurant to be better... I will never go back there again!
